GoDaddy’s SmartLine App Gives Businesses A Second Mobile Number
GoDaddy is mostly known by everybody as a company that specializes in selling Internet domains. But not many people know that the firm has also expanded its business to also include voice and telephone services, especially after it completed its acquisition of FreedomVoice in May of last year. Well this week, GoDaddy is formally releasing a new app called SmartLine, which has the ability to provide a second mobile phone number for business establishments.
GoDaddy actually took the time to conduct a survey among small businesses, and it had found out that 86 percent of enterprises are making full use of their smartphone devices for both work and personal purposes, but if these businesses can help it, they would prefer not to share their personal contact information.
This is where GoDaddy’s SmartLine mobile app comes in. Basically, the app generates a second phone number that can connect to a customer’s iOS or Android powered mobile device. Unavoidably, some will be thinking that SmartLine is sort of taking a leaf out of Google Voice’s page. But as pointed out by Barry Saik, the senior vice president and general manager of telephony at GoDaddy, what makes SmartLine different is that it is specifically designed for small business owners.
Saik further explained that the SmartLine app is capable of displaying both the caller ID, and an indicator that a particular phone call is indeed coming from SmartLine (which means it is for business, and not for personal purposes) on the same screen. Other notable features include an ability to set up SmartLine from the app (without needing to go to an official website), to assign business hours (which comes in handy when directing calls made beyond business hours to voicemail), and to receive voicemail transcriptions. Lastly, SmartLine conveniently collates all the small business owner’s interactions with somebody (both voice calls and text messages) in one single window.
Taking a more proactive approach, GoDaddy is looking to add even more features to its SmartLine mobile app. But which specific features exactly? These include vanity phone numbers, toll free numbers, and the ability to share a particular phone number between multiple employees’ mobile phones.
With unlimited voice calls and text messaging, SmartLine is priced at $9.99 a month. Small business owners can also choose to pay $3.99 a month for up to 100 minutes and 100 text messages. According to Saik, this entry level plan should be an ideal option for customers who are just starting their business and need a business phone number, but are not really ready yet to consume all the minutes.
