Singapore Survey: Consumers Won’t Last A Day Without Mobile Data
According to the results of a survey recently conducted by Circles.Life in Singapore, it turns out that about half of consumers today can not last more than a day without mobile data. For those not familiar with Circles.Life, it is considered the newest wireless carrier based in Singapore (the company made its debut in May of last year only), and it took the time to ask about 900 mobile users aged between 16 years old to 54 years old.
Needless to say, the results of the survey are somewhat interesting, but may not be altogether that surprising. About two thirds of those surveyed claimed that they require at least 6 gigabytes of data in any given month. Intriguingly, that is less than the average data plan of about 3.5 gigabytes, which suggests that users based in Singapore may be considered data deprived. Indeed, 90 percent of those who participated in the study said that they were frustrated because they were not getting more data.
If it is any comfort to Singaporean mobile users, they are far from being alone. In the west, North American consumers are projected to consume an average of 6.9 gigabytes of data every month by the end of this year. That 6.9 gigabytes of data represents a 50 percent increase from the usage level of that of June’s. As stated earlier, this is kind of expected. After all, mobile users of today are busy checking social media platforms, watching video streaming, and listening to streamed music more than ever. In half a decade, that 6.9 gigabytes of data will likely balloon to a whopping 26 gigabytes of data each month.
Similar to mobile users based in other countries, consumers in Singapore are quite fond of social networking sites like Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube -- with those three cited as the most frequently used mobile apps in Singapore. This might be true in other parts of Asia as well -- a report from App Annie states that the average Android mobile user based in South Korea spends nearly 210 minutes on apps on a daily basis. As for Chinese consumers, they are well aware that too much social media could be harmful, but they admit to still continuing to utilize social media apps regardless.
