ComiXology’s Guided View Now Available On Amazon’s Kindle App For iOS
The digital comics reading experience has gotten an immense boost through the Guided View feature developed by ComiXology. The feature is primarily designed to be used on smartphones and tablet devices, basically letting readers browse comics content panel by panel, which is really cool because that is how people read comics in real life.
Now, the feature is made available on Amazon’s Kindle app for iOS powered devices. Amazon had completed its acquisition of ComiXology about three years ago, which allowed the company’s customers to enjoy the option of combining their accounts and migrate their Kindle purchases to the comics browser app. However, the latest update does away with all of that because it now gives people the opportunity to purchase and then read comics using just one mobile app.
On top of that, the new update also comes with a read it later feature, which is reminiscent of that from Instapaper and Pocket. Moreover, users of Kindle can now add documents and web pages to their library by making full use of the Share button. And because the web pages are converted to the Kindle format, people are free to edit the text, the font, and even the color of the page. Before, saving a document to Kindle was sort of a hassle, with users having to deal with more than one email address, and browser extensions, just to name a few.
As for ComiXology, the company has truly gone a long way. Not satisfied with being the most widely used hub for digital comics in the Internet and on mobile devices, it announced back in October of last year that it was planning to develop original comics content. Called the ComiXology Originals, the program’s objective was to showcase comics produced by both creators and publishers. Some of the new comics that were to be included were Adventure Time Marshall Lee Spectacular by critically acclaimed scribe Mariko Tamaki. This title, of course, feature Marshall Lee, the ridiculously popular character from the Cartoon Network show. Also included is Marley’s Ghost by the late Mad editor Harvey Kurtzman. This will be a completed version of Kurtzman’s first attempt at writing comics.
When ComiXology first started about a decade ago, it began with just more than a hundred titles. Now, it offers between 300 to 500 comics to readers every week. Currently, its library contains over a hundred thousand comics, graphic novels, and even manga.
