T-Mobile makes new changes to SIM swap requests
With all the complaints that T-Mobile has received regarding unauthorized SIM swaps, it’s good to know that the Un-carrier is finally doing something about it.
Earlier this week, T-Mo shared an internal document with its store representatives regarding an important change it is implementing with SIM swapping. According to the report, SIM card changes will now need SMS verification from the customer or credentials from two of its store employees.
The decision to implement this change is the carrier’s response to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which required carriers to “positively identify a customer” before a port out can be made. With the new changes that T-Mobile is implementing, an extra layer of protection can be given to customers against SIM swap attacks.
The new SIM swap changes have been in place since December 14th.
