Verizon Wireless, AT&T Adds Extra Monthly Fee on Legacy Plans
This week, Verizon and AT&T made changes to its legacy plans. The two companies sent out notifications to its customers on older unlimited plans to anticipate a new fee on their bill.
This change affects Verizon’s 5G Start and AT&T’s Unlimited Elite customers. For affected customers on Verizon, a new “Plan Rate Adjustment” charge will be implemented monthly at $3 per line. Meanwhile, AT&T customers on the old Unlimited Elite plan can expect a new $2.50 per month charge.
This tactic, as pointed out by The Verge is a classic move to push customers to switch to a “newer, more profitable” plan. But as mentioned by a spokesperson for AT&T:
“We want our customers to know they have options, and should they choose to make a change, we offer other rate plans that may provide different features that better suit their needs, including getting more mobile hotspot data for the same price.”
These changes will also start in August.
