Your Guide to Apple’s New Releases

During an event in Cupertino, California, Apple officially introduced new products to the public. It is hardly the first time that the world has gotten excited over a new Apple release, but with the September 9 unveiling, there is genuinely plenty of reason to be stoked.

So to make sure you have not missed anything, we are presenting you this guide to everything that was launched by Apple during that event.

The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus

Yes, Apple released two new iPhones simultaneously. The bodies of both new iPhones are made of anodized aluminum material. The new design goes for a smoother, more rounded look, as evidenced by the curves of the coverglass along the sides.

The new iPhones are also significantly slimmer than previous models. The iPhone 6 is only 6.9 mm thick, while the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1 mm. Now compare the two with the iPhone 5S, which has a thickness of 7.1 mm. While the new generation is thinner, they make up for it with bigger display screens -- the iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch display screen, while the iPhone 6 Plus has 5.5-inch display screen. Both phones boast a new Retina HD display.

The latest iPhone models also have improved cameras. They are equipped with 8-megapixel iSight cameras that come with True Tone flash, new sensors, and a 2.2 aperture.

Price-wise, the iPhone 6 costs $199.00 (16 gigabytes), $299.00 (64 gigabytes), and $399.00 (128 gigabytes). As for the iPhone 6 Plus, it is priced at $299.00 (16 gigabytes), $399.00 (64 gigabytes), and $499.00 (128 gigabytes)

The Apple Watch

Apple also introduced the Apple Watch, the first of its wearable devices. The Apple Watch features a digital crown, which allows users to navigate through menu options without having their view of the watch's face obstructed.

As for its hardware specs, the Apple Watch comes with a Retina display with a sapphire crystal screen. On the rear side, the smartwatch is equipped with four sensors, comprised of infrared and photosensors. When used with other sensors like pedometers, they can measure the user's activity level.

The Apple Watch's features include haptic notifications, which allow users to read notifications easily by just raising the watch to their face. The wearable device is also capable of sending emojis and doodles.

Users will no doubt find the Apple Watch's bands (straps) fun. These bands come in different colors and different materials. Some come in sports-style sweat-proof designs, while others are made to appear like jewelry (some come plated with gold).

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a mobile payment service. Instead of swiping credit cards, users who avail of this service will only need to swipe their iPhones or Apple Watches. Apple says that these two devices can be pre-loaded with the user's debit and credit cards via the Passbook app.

The A8 processor and the M8 co-processor

Apple also unveiled the A8 processor and the M8 co-processor, which will be used in the new iPhones and the Apple Watch, respectively. The A8 chip is an upgrade on the previous A7 chip, and it should facilitate faster computing speed and energy efficiency in both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices.

As for M8, it is a motion sensor co-processor that can measure distance and track elevation. More importantly, it takes some of the computing load off of the iPhone's CPU -- enabling one's iPhone to measure your activity level without switching the main processor on, in the process conserving your battery power.
