Introducing The Moto Z Play: The Newest Addition To The Moto Z Family

Motorola has definitely been busy with its Moto Z lineup of products. It has only been slightly more than a month since the phone maker released its Moto Z and Moto Z Force devices in the United States mobile market, and now it is introducing a new addition to this smartphone family. As far as pricing is concerned, the new Moto Z Play is easily the most affordable among the lot -- it comes with a price of $408 (or $17 per month when purchased by way of an installment plan) and will be made available in store shelves in America on September 8th of this year. However, it bears noting that for at least a month or so, the Moto Z Play smartphone will be offered as a Verizon Wireless exclusive, and afterwards, a fully unlocked variant should be made available most likely in October.

Now on to the specifications -- the Moto Z Play features a vivid 5.5 inch display screen with a resolution of 1,080 pixels, flanked by a 16 megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) on the rear side and a 5 megapixel selfie shooter (f/2.2 aperture) on the front side. Inside its frame, the Moto Z Play handset packs a 2 GigaHertz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 eight core chip set with the Adreno 506 graphics processing unit. This is further supported with 3 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 32 gigabytes of onboard memory (with micro SD support of up to 2 terabytes of storage space). The device also has a 3,510 mAh battery and is powered by Google’s Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Speaking of software, because the device runs on Android Marshmallow, users can expect some nifty functionalities such as being able to activate the camera by twisting the handset or being able to display the time and notifications by waving one’s palm over the display screen. But beware though -- the fact that the device is offered initially as a Verizon Wireless exclusive will almost certainly mean that it will come with its fair share of bloatware. 

Interestingly, the Moto Z Play comes with a headphone jack. Both the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force do not have headphone jacks so it may come as a surprise to some why Motorola has decided to put one on the Moto Z Play.
