Here Comes The iPhone 7 And The iPhone 7 Plus
It is official -- Apple has formally introduced its latest iPhone offerings, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Before we go discuss the features and functionalities, know that both devices are coming to store shelves everywhere on September 16th of this year. With regards to pricing, the iPhone 7 starts at $649, while the iPhone 7 Plus starts at $769.
First, the looks -- the new iPhone 7 devices actually look very similar to last year’s iPhone 6s devices (just like what the rumors indicated), but this year’s models do offer a new color option called Jet Black. The surface is rendered from aluminum and made incredibly shiny, which has the effect of making the metal body seem to merge smoothly with the glass display screen. Of course, the new iPhone 7 devices are also made available in standard colors such as gold, silver, and rose gold.
Now for the new features. First off is the Home button which will now work through Apple’s taptic engine (also present in new Mac trackpads), which provides touch sensitive capabilities and makes the user feel like the button is clicking even though it does not.
Photography enthusiasts will be delighted to know that Apple has definitely upped the ante in that department. The main camera on the iPhone 7 is a six element, 1.8 aperture lens, 12 megapixel, with a quad LED flash shooter, while the secondary camera is a 7 megapixel shooter (an improvement over the 5 megapixel camera of the iPhone 6s). As for the camera specs on the iPhone 7 Plus, things get way more interesting. That is because the device comes with a couple of 12 megapixel cameras on the rear side, allowing for both wide angle and telephoto.
Apple has wisely made its newest smartphones tougher than any iPhone before, courtesy of an IP67 rating in water and dust resistance. So if owners of iPhone 7 devices find themselves the object of a good dunking in a swimming pool, they can rest assure that their smartphones will survive the ordeal.
Audio wise, the new iPhone models feature stereo speakers, and -- alas -- the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack has been jettisoned. What happens now is that Lightning EarPods will connect by way of the Lightning port. For those who are not willing to get rid of their 3.5 millimeter headphones, Apple has included an adapter to ease the transition.
