The New Pixel 2 Phones, Plus Everything Else Google Just Unveiled
Google did not disappoint in its unveiling event, not only debuting two new Pixel smartphone devices, but also lots of other cool and interesting stuff. Of course, people will likely be talking about the new Pixel 2 phones in the days and weeks to come, and they should be, but for those who want to get an overall picture of the new toys that Google just announced, here’s a quick guide.
Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL
Google partnered with HTC in building the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, and as far as Android powered flagship devices go, these two represent some of the best that Android can offer. The handsets come with sleek display screens (with always on functionality) on an all aluminum frame, improved camera specs that feature portrait mode (with background defocus) and Motion Photos, squeezable sides (which can be used to launch Google Assistant), probably the most streamlined version of the Android Oreo mobile operating system, support for the ARCore augmented reality platform, water and dust resistance (IP67 rating), and pricing that starts at $649 (Pixel 2) and $849 (Pixel 2 XL). The only major difference between the two is really the screen size -- the Pixel 2 is at 5 inches while the Pixel 2 XL is at 6 inches. Also, those preordering any one of the devices will get to receive a Google Home Mini.
Pixel Buds
Even as wireless headphones are starting to gain traction among today’s mobile users, Google is taking the concept into uncharted territory. Its new Pixel Buds are not only impressive wireless headphones themselves, but also come with the ability to translate 40 languages when used together with Google Assistant on the Pixel 2 or the Pixel 2 XL. The headphones are arriving next month at a price of $159.
Daydream View
Google updates its Daydream View virtual reality headset with a facepad that fits better, improved optics via a wide field of view, more efficient heat dispersion, new content (feature IMAX movies on Google Play), expanded color options (gray, light gray, and coral), and a price of $99 (coming this October 19th).
Pixelbook
Remember the Chromebook Pixel released around a couple of years ago? The Pixelbook is Google’s follow up to that 2015 offering. It features a convertible design, 12.3 inch touch screen (with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels), soft keyboard, a Pixelbook Pen stylus, quick charging, instant tethering to Pixel devices, Google Assistant preinstalled, and a starting price of $999.
Home Mini & Home Max
Google’s Home Assistant gets a new mini version (the Home Mini) and a new super sized edition (the Home Max). The Home Mini fetches for $49, while the Home Max costs $399.
Google Clips
Google Clips is a standalone camera that shoots short video clips. The price is $249.
