Sprint Opens Twice The Price Store To Troll Verizon

Sprint Opens Twice The Price Store To Troll Verizon

Why open a store called Twice the Price? For Sprint, it serves as a rather weird (and even hilarious) way to tell people about how its rival’s pricing is off the charts (okay, that is a bit of an exaggeration). So which rival are we talking about here? It is none other than the biggest mobile operator in America itself -- Verizon Wireless.

Indeed, Sprint has just announced the grand opening of the Twice the Price store in New York City, and it had the temerity to set up shop next to a Verizon Wireless retail outlet. For good measure, the major US wireless carrier also decided to produce a promotional video for Twice the Price store, and the clip is as charmingly low budget as those used car salesman commercials, with a lovely cast playing customers in varying stages of disgruntlement. The Twice the Price store even has an owner and president, in the person of Uncle Danny.

So what exactly are being sold at the Twice the Price store? Just about everything, and true to its brand, it certainly sells products at twice their regular prices. And when we say everything, we mean just about everything -- including potato chips, party supplies, boogie boards, makeup mirrors, cleaning mops, and even bottled water.

But wait -- there are no mobile plans being offered anywhere. And there is a big reason for that -- in opening the Twice the Price store, Sprint just wanted to drive home a specific point -- that just like the Twice the Price store, Verizon Wireless is offering its unlimited data option at twice the regular price, well at least in the eyes of Sprint.

We are, of course, talking about the fact that the Big Red offers four or five lines of service with unlimited data, and then charges people $45 per line. Sprint, on the other hand, offers the four lines of service (with unlimited data, voice calls, and text messaging) at $22.50 a month for each line. In other words, $45 is twice the price as $22.50, so everything should make sense now.

It goes without saying that Sprint is just really doing its part to get people to avail of its unlimited data offerings instead of Verizon Wireless’. For sure, the so-called unlimited data wars is getting intense as ever, and at this point, we can’t really know what to expect anymore. But for the carriers, as long as they get to gain new sign ups, the battle rages on.
