T-Mobile experiences minor breach for the second time this year
This week, T-Mobile sent out a notification letter to its customers who were affected by a recent hack. These customers received a letter from the wireless carrier last April 28th. The letter contains this message:
“While we have a number of safeguards in place to alert us to unauthorized access such as this from happening, we recognize that we must continue to make improvements to stay ahead of bad actors. We take these issues seriously. We apologize that this happened and are furthering efforts to enhance security of your information.”
As reported by Bleeping Computer, the hack took place sometime in late February to March 2023. The attack was discovered on March 27.
T-Mo did not reveal how its systems got hacked, but it shared that there is a low number of affected customers right now. It also revealed that the information obtained by the hackers include customers’ full names, dates of birth, addresses, government IDs, social security numbers, and T-Mobile account plans.
Even though customers’ financial information and call records were not accessed in the breach, T-Mobile has reset the PINs of those who were affected. In addition to this, these customers will be receiving two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft detection services.
