MetroPCS Arrives in Boston & New York
MetroPCS, which offers unlimited local calling in plans ranging from $30 to $50 per month, has now launched service in New York City and Boston areas. The New York coverage area goes from a line roughly from New Brunswick and Paterson, NJ eastward through the 5 boroughs of New York City through the western half of Long Island, including Islip and Smithtown. The area also includes a bit of southern Westchester County. (Yonkers and White Plains).
The Boston coverage area starts south of Providence, roughly along a Warwick to new Bedford line, northward to Lowell, west to Worcester and east to the Atlantic. There is also some major highway coverage into southern New Hampshire, including Manchester. Visit the MetroPCS website to view exact coverage for your area.
Metro PCS offers no-contracts and first month free. It is a very good option for landline replacement and/or for those who use their cellular service in a small regional area. The company's service may be less attractive if you travel frequently for work or pleasure.
If you do travel frequently, make sure you get coverage in all their local areas (included in the $45 or $50 plans, a $5 option in $35 and $40 plans) and subscribe to TravelTalk, which lets you use your service outside MetroPCS service areas. However, that latter service is $0.49 or $0.79 per minute, which can add up quickly.
