T-Mobile Makes Credit Evaluation Changes on New Postpaid Accounts
If you are interested in getting a postpaid line from T-Mobile, there is good news waiting for you.
As reported by The Mobile Report this week, the Un-carrier will be making changes to how it conducts credit checks.
In the past, new customers were categorized using a “credit class” to determine their creditworthiness. And usually, this was the only time customers’ credit health was checked. This means that as time goes on, their credit limit on T-Mobile remains the same, regardless of whether it has improved or not.
The good news is, T-Mobile will be implementing a new credit evaluation system for new customers.
When you open a new postpaid account, T-Mobile will be revisiting your account six months after activation. There will also be an ongoing evaluation on the customer’s account history, payment history, and tenure, so that the appropriate changes can be made.
This means that your credit limit can go up, down, or stay the same, depending on your account history. If you regularly pay your bills on time, you’ll be able to have a higher credit limit and be able to open more lines. But if you are prone to making late payments, your credit limit will go down.
T-Mo will be using its internal account history to reevaluate a customer’s credit. This means they won’t look into the other credit reporting agencies.
This new change will take effect on June 21st. It will be limited to postpaid T-Mobile customers.
