T-Mobile Has Not Implemented a Data Cap on Home Internet
Earlier this week, T-Mobile rolled out its Hulu On Us perk for Go5G Next subscribers. The rollout, however, also means that T-Mobile customers now get Netflix with ads.
It was also previously reported that T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet service now comes with a data cap. But as T-Mobile clarified,
“This is a fair usage policy, not a data cap. We don’t have a data cap. Customers still get unlimited data even if they use more than 1.2TB in a month (over 2X the average user – less than 10% of our customers). They’ll just be prioritized after other home internet customers for the reminder of the bill cycle, and they may notice slower speeds compared to other home internet customers in times of congestion. This ensures that all of our customers get a great network experience. At the start of the next month, those customers reset to normal prioritization until the next time they hit 1.2TB.”
So no, T-Mobile has not implemented a data cap on its 5G Home Internet service. The Un-carrier simply updated its terms and conditions to reflect the “further reduction after 1.2 TB” reminder.
This means that while you can continue to enjoy Home Internet service, you’ll have to be careful with your streaming use as you might reach the data threshold before the month is over. If you do hit this limit, you’ll experience data deprioritization during times of network congestion.
