It’s really happening. The three major wireless carriers in the country will be shutting down their 3G CDMA networks soon. 

Here are the confirmed dates on when the network will be shut down and what you can expect from your carrier.

T-Mobile

The major carrier that will be the first to shutdown its CDMA 3G network is T-Mobile. As revealed by an internal memo, the network will be shutting down Sprint’s CDMA network on January 1, 2022. 

The leaked document reveals that the company has informed its business customers of the shutdown schedule back in December 2020 to get them ready for any changes they need to take care of. 

In the coming months, T-Mobile will be releasing different offers to encourage customers to switch to a compatible device. In addition to that, they will send out more emails in the future to remind customers of this impending network change.

AT&T

Shortly after T-Mobile will shutdown its CDMA network, AT&T will follow on February 22, 2022. 

Right now, AT&T has already released a list of phones, smartwatches, and tablets that will continue to be operational after the network has shut down. Their concern, however, is on the many alarms and home security devices that use their 3G network. Users will need to replace these devices right away so they won’t encounter any problems.

Verizon 

For several times now, Verizon has delayed the date of its CDMA network shutdown. But according to its most recent update, the shutdown will happen on December 31, 2022. 

If you are a Verizon customer and you’re still using a 3G basic phone or smartphone, you will lose service when the network shutdown takes place. In addition to these devices, Verizon says that there will be a short number of 4G and connected devices that will be affected. These devices are the ones that don’t support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) so you better check your device.
